Endodontics is a vital specialty in dentistry focused on treatment of dental caries, defects, and diseases of the dental pulp and periapical tissues. It emphasizes saving the tooth structure and maintaining function and aesthetics. It also restores decayed, fractured, or worn teeth.

Root canal treatment is a common endodontic dental procedure designed to repair and save a tooth that is badly decayed or infected, relieving pain and preventing further complications. It treats the decay of tooth pulp (innermost layer of the teeth). When decay reaches the pulp, endodontic treatment is required which involves removing the infected pulp, cleaning and disinfecting the teeth, and sealing it to prevent further infection.
